Year of Reading recap

And so it ends. Thank you ball boys, thank you linesmen. The year of reading is over. 366 days later and 370 books read. Not a bad effort. My spread sheet tells me that the numbers break down like this:

Of the 370 books read:
181 were Ebooks
168 were Paperbacks
21 were Hardcovers

48 were non-fiction
81 were graphic novels
240 were fiction
1 was a picture book

I won't go into too much detail. I know not everyone gets excited by spread sheets and pie charts. To put things in perspective here are some things that were read but didn't count towards the target:

24 professional journals
27 sets of lecture notes
186 academic journal articles
3,235 webcomics

As well as roughly 127 newspapers which don’t really count as I never manage to read them cover to cover, and more emails than I care to remember. At some point in the future I’ll put together a highlights post. Not quite sure what I’m going to do with myself this year. Miss R did mention something about a list of things she wants done … probably wants me to do more than just read it.

Freedom

The fact that I am finally finished with my masters hasn’t sunk in yet. I handed in the final assignment yesterday, after I had a surprise lunch with Miss A, (always a pleasure even if I did leave her drooling over cake memories). I’m not sure what I was expecting as I put the assignment in the box. It’s not like a fanfare is usually played, but it was all a bit anticlimactic.

I came home, read two more books, and went about my business. Even after getting up this morning it still doesn’t feel like it’s over. If doesn’t even feel like I’m on holiday or something. It’s all rather strange. Perhaps after three years of studying it’s going to take a little while for my body/brain to adjust.

Miss R wants to celebrate me finishing with a lunch or dinner with everyone, since I refuse to go to graduation. I refuse to sit there for 2 or more hours bored out of my skull so they can get my name wrong and hand me my piece of paper that says I’m a Master. They can post it to me. I’d much rather eat with my friends.

Now that I am free we can start planning the zombicide event. Not exactly sure where we are going to have it or when. I am going to spend the morning unpacking the box while the washing machine serenades me. Uni may be over but chores are forever.

Getting sorted

I am amazed that I can even move after this last weekend. I have eaten a lot or food. Well, when I say food, I mean cake. There was certainly more than one point that my body was at least 50% sugar. Luckily I don’t tend to suffer from the usually inevitable sugar crash that claims so many others. I did however have great difficulty getting out of bed yesterday morning. But, as we all know, I’m not much of a morning person.

At this exact moment I am task avoiding. Miss R has left me a list of chores to get through this week. The biggest of these is to file all my uni stuff, and clean my desk. I’d like to state for the record that my desk is not that bad. It may look like chaos, but I know where everything is. Miss R remains unimpressed. So once I’m finished blogging I’m going to have to make a start on it. I should point out that I have no issue with putting everything away, I would just rather do it without the nagging.

Realistically, this burst of chores is my own fault. Miss R is not prepared to have people over unless the house is spotless. Hence the cleaning frenzy. The fact there are still 11 days before the birds is beside the point. I have done the most important stuff. I’ve ordered the bird, and told all the test subjects volunteers where and when. Really it’ll be fine.

With all the food I can’t imagine anyone will be looking at anything else.
